Grade II listed, the Liverpool Empire is one of the largest two-tier theatres in the UK, prominently situated on Lime Street in the city centre.
It underwent a major refurbishment in 1998 with the addition of new public areas and a greatly enlarged stage. Throughout the twentieth century, the theatre played host to a series of legendary entertainers including Laurel and Hardy, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Julie Andrews and The Beatles. In 2025, the theatre celebrated 100 years of bringing the best in live entertainment to the Liverpool City Region.
In recent years the theatre has continued its tradition of popular entertainment with blockbuster musicals such as Wicked, Hamilton, Les Misérables and Moulin Rouge! The Musical as well as comedians such as Russell Howard, Ricky Gervais and Tim Minchin and popular music acts including Kraftwerk, Gary Barlow and Paloma Faith. The venue proudly plays host to world class dance too with performances from New Adventures, Rambert and English National Ballet proving popular.
